Dream, Build, Inspire, Lead!

Wednesday, 6th June 2007

On Wednesday 6 June 2007, BLKMGK ICT’s Solution Manager - AJ Kulatunga delivered the first Dream, Build, Inspire, Lead! presentation to over 100 students at Darwin High School to inspire and motivate them to look at a career in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The event was held as part of the Northern Territory’s ICT Industry Roadshow and coordinated by Tania Stevenson from Fujitsu.

The Dream, Build, Inspire, Lead! initiative was created by AJ Kulatunga earlier this year in the hope that it would give Young Territorians an opportunity to be inspired and motivated by professional development opportunities.

The Minister for Communications - Mr Elliot McAdam MLA was also in attendance and took great interest in the initiative. Mr Kulatunga is looking forward to speaking with the Minister to see how he can assist with similar initiatives to youths in remote aboriginal communities.

All in all the event was a great success and congratulations to all participants for helping to make a difference to the kids of the Northern Territory.

ACS @ CDU

Wednesday, 21st February 2007

The NT Branch of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) held an information stand as part of CDU’s Orientation Day on Wednesday 21st Feb at CDU’s Casuarina Campus. The stand featured information on career development, innovative multimedia animations from the Department of Health’s Interactive Communications and Development Unit, as well as a host of promotional give-aways. “We want to convince people that IT is no longer just about writing code and crunching numbers, its about using innovative technology to solve various issues and enhance quality of life.” ACS Young IT Representative, AJ Kulatunga said.

One of the main items on show was the NT Government’s new prototype laptop from the United Nations One Laptop Per Child Program. The program aims to provide low cost computers to children in developing nations and is being trialed in the NT. The laptop is an entirely new way of thinking from what people are used to with modern day computers and it will be a real treat to see how it looks and operates.

The ACS is committed to providing its members with professional development, career support and networking opportunities. “Two of our Young IT Members have been recognised as Young Professional of the Year by Professions Australia”. ACS Young IT invites all students to come down and have a look at the technology on display and sign up for membership to kick start their career.
