Entrepreneurial Advice - Dragons Den

Sunday, 4th July 2010

I LOVE the world of business. To me it’s not just about making money (okay that is a big part of it) but for me personally it’s the ideas and the people behind the business that really makes me passionate about it. I love hearing both success and failure stories of entrepreneurs because you can learn so much from them. Dragon’s Den is a tv show about business and since I LOVE business I was firmly hooked on the series.
Dragon’s Den is all about fledging entrepreneurs getting the chance to pitch their business ideas to a panel of seriously successful business people - The Dragons. It’s essentially a venture capital show that allows the successful business people to invest in an entrepreneurial idea in exchange for a share in the business. In typical TV style there’s moments created by careful editing to put together scenarios that are meant to be entertaining to a tv audience but in general the show is about entrepreneurship.

Personally I love the way The Dragons interrogate the entrepreneurs that present their ideas to them. Some of them are just ideas that are not workable as a business but others are interesting opportunities to make a lot of money for the stakeholders of that business. As well as a cash investment, The Dragons help to add value to the businesses which in turn adds value to their return on investment. It’s a brilliant show and I’m seriously hooked! Here check out a clip from the UK series:

Now since I’m passionate about business and there’s a bunch of Dream,Build,Inspire,Lead! readers who are in business or thinking of starting one, I thought I’d focus this week’s post on showcasing some of the best secrets to being successful in Business by each of the Dragons. Let’s meet them:

Theo Paphitis

Duncan Bannatyne

Peter Jones

James Caan

Deborah Meaden

So this week I challenge you, if you already are in a business or thinking of starting one, put some of these golden tips into action and let me know how you go. Good luck!
